This workshop showed teachers how to use students&#8217; fascination with Japan&#8217;s vibrant pop culture as a gateway to learning about the history and culture of Japan and other Asian countries.<\/p>\n<p>Professor <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/people\/brian-dowdle\/\">Brian Dowdle<\/a>\u00a0led a\u00a0lecture about Japanese popular culture and an introduction on resources from the <a href=\"http:\/\/nctasia.org\/\">National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA)<\/a>. Professor Dowdle is the Co-Chair of the Department of World Languages and Cultures at the University of Montana, where he teaches courses on Japanese literature, language, and history.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop was open to pre-service and in-service teachers and was especially relevant for social studies and history teachers, librarians and other educators interested in finding new ways to reach students.<\/p>\n<p>This FREE seminar was sponsored by the East Asia Resource Center (EARC) in the Henry M.
