“Camel caravans on the network of Eurasian trade routes known as the Silk Road are a somewhat misleading clich\u00e9. But the mixing of different cultures, religions, and languages through multiple networks of both overland and maritime trade still fascinates and inspires.\u00a0” — excerpt from the Gardner Center website.<\/em><\/p>\n

Write about Asia<\/strong>\u00a0was offered by the East Asia Resource Center and the South Asia Center<\/a> at the University of Washington in conjunction with the Seattle Asian Art Museum’s Gardner Center for Asian Art and Ideas.<\/a>\u00a0 This series was titled “Silk Roads Past and Present: Ancient Afghan Treasure to China’s Belt & Road Initiative<\/strong>“.\u00a0 The workshop Write About Asia was offered following each public lecture lecture and facilitated by\u00a0Mary Roberts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Educators attended the public lecture from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and then met for a writing workshop from 11:30 a.m – 2:00 p.m.\u00a0 During the workshop, time was given to solitary writing in response to the morning lecture. The workshop nurtured educators as writers through self-reflection and group discussion.\u00a0 Priority was given to full-time K12 teachers.<\/p>\n

Dates<\/strong>: October 12, October 19, October 26, November 2, December 7, 2019; January 11, January 18, 2020. A commitment to attend a minimum of two workshops was required in order to obtain clock hours.<\/p>\n

Time<\/strong>: 11.30 AM\u00a0 to 2:00 PM, following the University Lecture Series public lecture from 10.00 AM to 11.30 PM.<\/p>\n

Location<\/strong>: Seattle Art Museum, Plestcheeff Auditorium<\/p>\n

Important<\/strong>:\u00a0Participation to the public lecture was mandatory and free for Write About Asia participants.<\/p>\n
