The awards recognize quality books for children and young adults that contribute meaningfully to an understanding of East and Southeast Asia. During the workshop, educators reviewed quality books for the grades 2-8 classroom and read and interacted with the texts, shared responses with other readers, and took home books to keep and use in school and share with students. The following attributes were studied: quality of the story, plot, and characterization; cultural authenticity, and the potential for classroom use.<\/p>\n<p>This seminar was sponsored by the East Asia Resource Center (EARC) in the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington with funding from a Freeman Foundation grant in support of the National Consortium for Teaching about Asia (NCTA).<\/p>\n<h3>Program details<\/h3>\n<p>Dates: April 20, 2019<\/p>\n<p>Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>Location: 317 Thomson Hall, University of Washington,\u00a0<span class=\"LrzXr\">King Lane Northeast, Seattle, WA 98105.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Lunch\u00a0 provided;
