“Write about Asia” was offered by the East Asia Resource Center in conjunction with the Seattle Asian Art Museum’s Gardner Center for Asian Art and Ideas Saturday University Lecture Series.\u00a0 Each Saturday (with the exception on November 24), there was a lecture followed by a writing workshop which was facilitated by Mary Barber Roberts.<\/a><\/p>\n

This series was titled \u201cSound Travels:\u00a0Performing Arts of Asia”. This series was inspired by exploring “nine evolving creative forms of music, dance, and drama that build on Asian performing arts traditions.” (excerpt from the Gardner Center website).\u00a0\u00a0Additional funding for this series came from the South Asia Center<\/a> and the Southeast Asia Center<\/a> and the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies at the University of Washington.<\/p>\n

Each Saturday, educators attended the public lecture from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. and then met for a writing workshop from 11:30 a.m – 2:00 p.m.\u00a0 During the workshop, time was given to solitary writing in response to the morning lecture. The workshop nurtured educators as writers through self-reflection and group discussion.<\/p>\n

All lectures and writing workshops took place at the Seattle Art Museum.\u00a0\u00a0Registration was on a first come, first serve basis. Full-time K12 teachers were given priority.<\/p>\n
