{"id":2471,"date":"2018-02-01T18:25:11","date_gmt":"2018-02-01T18:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/?p=2471"},"modified":"2018-04-05T17:52:23","modified_gmt":"2018-04-05T17:52:23","slug":"engaging-students-contemporary-world-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/engaging-students-contemporary-world-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Engaging Students in Contemporary World Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/\">East Asia Resource Center<\/a>\u00a0was a co-sponsor of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.choices.edu\/\">CHOICES Program<\/a>\u00a0pre-conference workshop at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wscss.org\/spring-conference-and-retreat\/\">2018 Spring Washington State Council for the Social Studies Conference<\/a> in Stevenson, WA.<\/p>\n<p>Participants were immersed in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.choices.edu\/curriculum-unit\/china-world-stage-weighing-u-s-response\/\">China on the World Stage: Weighing the U.S. Response<\/a>, and examined parts of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.choices.edu\/curriculum-unit\/climate-change-questions-justice\/\">Climate Change and Questions of Justice<\/a>. Both units were provided. Participants discussed ways to adapt these materials to specific classroom goals. The workshop also highlighted free resources on the Choices website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Date:<\/strong> Friday, March 9, 2018<\/p>\n<p><strong>Time:<\/strong> 9:00 AM- 1:00 PM<\/p>\n<p><strong>Location:<\/strong> Stevenson, WA<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop cost:<\/strong> Registration was $75<\/p>\n<p><strong>Workshop benefits:<\/strong> Two curriculum units, breakfast, and a certificate of completion.
