Mary Roberts demonstrated ways to evaluate materials for accurate content and cultural authenticity. Then, using provided texts such as <em>Are You An Echo?: The Lost Poetry of Misuzu Kaneko<\/em>, <em>American Born Chinese<\/em> by Gene Luen Yang, and <em>Pyongyang: A Journey to North Korea<\/em> by Guy Delisle, participants had a chance to practice these skills and discuss the implications of &#8220;picture telling&#8221; with other teachers. Mary also highlighted a variety of other quality classroom instructional materials for children and young adults that contribute meaningfully to an understanding of China, Japan, and
