Many of these experiences were rooted in the policies and personality of one man\u2014Mao Zedong. This seminar carefully examines the secondary and primary sources related to Mao\u2019s rule over China. But more than sources, this seminar tells a remarkable story that all our students should critically examine.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-1926\" src=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/10\/fist-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"Mao supporters\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/10\/fist-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/10\/fist-375x245.jpg 375w, https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/earc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2016\/10\/fist.jpg 636w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>How did the People\u2019s Republic of China\u2014an embryonic state\u2014fight the world\u2019s greatest power to a standstill in Korea? How might one explain the Great Leap Forward and Cultural Revolution?
