Chinese Language Teachers Network<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The purpose of CLTN is to promote teaching of Chinese language at all educational levels in the State of Washington. It works to inform the public about issues related to teaching Chinese; develop a resource network for Chinese language educators; and arrange professional development workshops for teachers.<\/p>\n

Confucius Institute of the State of Washington<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Confucius Institutes are non-governmental and non-profit organizations affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. These institutes look to enhance understanding of Chinese language and culture throughout the United States.<\/p>\n

Densho<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Densho\u2019s mission is to preserve the testimonies of Japanese Americans who were unjustly incarcerated during World War II before their memories are extinguished. In addition to several curriculum units, their website hosts\u00a0firsthand accounts \u00a0and historical images that can be used to explore principles of democracy with students.<\/p>\n

Hyogo Business & Cultural Center<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

HBCC is committed to nurturing stronger governmental, business, and cultural relations between Hyogo Prefecture and the US. Through a variety of programs and services, HBCC expands international friendship and understanding with a focus on Hyogo’s sister-state, Washington.<\/p>\n

Japan-America Society of the State of Washington<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The JAS offers two school programs. The Japan in a Suitcase Program<\/a> presents a day in the life of a Japanese child using visual aids and items from Japan to make the experience as real as possible.\u00a0Japanese Language and Culture Visit<\/a>s (JLCV) provide a Japanese language total-immersion experience for high school students.<\/p>\n

Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute is a non-profit educational institution that provides intensive English-language and American culture classes to Japanese students from Mukogawa Women’s University (MWU) in Nishinomiya, Japan. MFWI also has a Japanese Cultural Center, which offers many cultural programs and exchanges for the region.<\/p>\n

Seattle Asian Art Museum<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Seattle Asian Art Museum features a collection of artifacts from many historical periods and regions of Asia. Many\u00a0events, including the Gardner Center for Asian Art and Ideas<\/a>\u00a0Saturday University lecture series, are open to the public. Teachers are also welcome to use the\u00a0McCaw Foundation Library and the Ann P. Wyckoff Teacher Resource Center<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Seattle Chinese Garden<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Located on the campus of the South Seattle Community College, the Seattle Chinese Garden is an ever-evolving public space, which offers many cultural and educational programs.\u00a0\u00a0Its\u00a0mission is to create a traditional Sichuan-style Chinese garden, the only one of its kind outside China, as a means of celebrating Seattle\u2019s rich Chinese heritage and supporting Seattle\u2019s future business and cultural relationship with China.<\/p>\n

Seattle Japanese Garden<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Located within the Washington Park Arboretum, this is a three-and-a-half-acre formal garden designed and constructed under the supervision of world-renowned Japanese garden designer Juki Iida in 1960. Chado<\/a> (The Way of Tea) demonstrations are offered periodically in the traditional teahouse.<\/p>\n

Washington Association of Teachers of Japanese<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

WATJ is an association of Japanese language teachers in Washington state. They host a summer institute and a fall conference.<\/p>\n

World Affairs Council Global Classroom<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Global Classroom extends the World Affairs Council\u2019s message of global understanding to K-12 classrooms by empowering teachers with the tools, knowledge, and perspectives to engage students in global studies, cultivate 21st century skills, and foster actively engaged global citizens.<\/p>\n

Washington State Council for Social Studies<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

WSCSS provides educators across the state of Washington with professional-development programs on teaching social studies in K-12 education.<\/p>\n

Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Wing Luke’s mission is to connect everyone to the rich history, dynamic cultures and art of the Asian Pacific Americans through vivid storytelling and inspiring experiences. They offer several teacher programs, as well as a curriculum subscription program<\/a>.<\/p>\n
