The East Asia Center has limited funding available to assist with\u00a0international\u00a0travel\u00a0and holds an annual call for travel funding proposals. This is typically in late August through September.<\/p>\n

All regular UW East Asia faculty, librarians and outreach personnel are eligible to apply, as are lecturers\u00a0who have been at the University for three years or more. Reimbursements will be made up to $1,000 per awardee per year. Exact funding amounts may vary in order to support as many applicants as possible.<\/p>\n

Proposed travel\u00a0must involve activities that will enhance our East Asia programs and Title VI National\u00a0Resource\u00a0Center. Eligible activities include those related to study\u00a0abroad programs, research, conferences, curriculum development,\u00a0lecturing or speaking opportunities, library acquisitions and business\u00a0meetings that contribute to curriculum or program development.<\/p>\n

Eligible expenses include international airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meals and related incidentals. If requesting reimbursement for airfare, awardees must fly on an American carrier as per the Fly America Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Funding decisions will be based on the following priorities:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Demonstrated strength of program development component<\/li>\n
  2. Length of stay (longer\u00a0stays will receive priority over shorter ones)<\/li>\n
  3. Balance among\u00a0disciplines and countries<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If more people apply than can be funded, a selection committee will be\u00a0formed.<\/p>\n

    2019-20 Call for Proposals<\/h2>\n

    We are now accepting applications for\u00a0international\u00a0travel in AY 2019-20. We welcome applications for travel that will\u00a0take place between November 1, 2019 and August 14, 2020.<\/p>\n

    Application Deadline:<\/strong> 11:59pm, Friday, September 27, 2019.<\/p>\n

    Please note: Unless additional funds become available, the EAC will only hold one\u00a0travel\u00a0grant\u00a0competition\u00a0for AY 2019-20. Therefore, you will need to apply now for travel\u00a0proposed to take\u00a0place in summer 2020.<\/p>\n

    Applications must include tentative travel itineraries, including dates and airlines, in order to be considered.<\/p>\n

    Please also note: Successful applicants must re-submit confirmed itineraries to the EAC prior to travel<\/u>. This is necessary so the EAC can submit Travel Authorization Requests (TARs) to the U.S. Department of Education 30 days prior to travel, as required. Therefore, we cannot guarantee processing TARs and reimbursements unless awardees submit full itineraries during regular office hours (9:00am-5:00pm, M-F) at least 31 days prior to travel<\/u>. Awardees who are unable to meet this deadline will forfeit their travel grant.<\/p>\n
