The East Asia Center has limited funding available to subsidize international travel and holds an annual call for travel funding proposals.<\/p>\n

The application cycle for 2025 grants has now closed<\/strong>. Funding permitting, we will open a new application cycle in Fall quarter 2025.<\/p>\n

Eligibility:<\/strong><\/p>\n

All regular UW East Asia faculty, librarians and outreach personnel who are affiliated with the East Asia Center are eligible to apply, as are lecturers who have been at the University for three years or more.<\/p>\n

Reimbursements will be made up to $1,000 per awardee per academic year. Exact award amounts may vary in order to support as many applicants as possible.<\/p>\n

Proposed travel\u00a0must involve activities that will enhance our East Asia programs and Title VI National\u00a0Resource\u00a0Center. Eligible activities include those related to study\u00a0abroad programs, research, conferences, curriculum development,\u00a0lecturing or speaking opportunities, library acquisitions and business\u00a0meetings that contribute to curriculum or program development.<\/p>\n

Eligible expenses include international airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meals and related incidentals. If requesting reimbursement for airfare, awardees must fly on an American carrier as per the Fly America Act<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Funding decisions will be based on the following priorities:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Demonstrated strength of program development component<\/li>\n
  2. Length of stay (longer stays also supported by other sources of funding will receive priority over shorter ones)<\/li>\n
  3. Balance among\u00a0disciplines and countries<\/li>\n
  4. Preference may also be given to applicants who have not previously received travel funding from the EAC during our current Title VI grant cycle (August 2022-December 2024), and to applicants who do not have access to other sources of UW travel or research funding<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If more people apply than can be funded, a selection committee will be formed to review and rank applications.<\/p>\n

    Please note:<\/strong> Successful applicants must re-submit confirmed itineraries to the EAC at least 35 days prior to travel<\/u>. This is necessary so the EAC can submit Travel Authorization Requests (TARs) to the U.S. Department of Education, as required. We cannot guarantee processing TARs and reimbursements unless awardees submit full itineraries during regular office hours (9:00am-5:00pm, M-F) at least 35 days prior to travel<\/u>. Awardees who are unable to meet this deadline will forfeit their travel grant.<\/p>\n
