Qualified applicants should contact Russell Hugo (<a href=\"mailto:rlhugo@uw.edu;\" target=\"blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rlhugo@uw.edu<\/a>), Assistant Director of the Language Learning Center, to inquire about openings.<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Qualifications for <\/span><strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Language Learning Center Staff Associates<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Staff Associates for the 2023-2024 academic year will be responsible for 20 hours of work each <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">week in the Language Learning Center between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday-Friday during the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">eleven weeks of each academic quarter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Every Staff Associate should have the following skills:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Ability to work independently; ability to learn new technologies and find answers to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">questions quickly and independently<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Teaching and\/or pedagogy experience<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Competence with basic computer operating systems and applications \u2013 word <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">processing\/spreadsheets, basic audio editing (e.g., Audacity) and video editing, as well <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">as common utilities such as secure file transfer \u2014 including foreign language use in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">same<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Basic internet and courseware skills: comfort with basic HTML (CSS, etc. are a plus), <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">experience with a learning management system (e.g., Canvas, Moodle)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Comfortable collaborating on projects and possibly leading\/managing them<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Ability to motivate and work with students and faculty using LLC resources<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Comfortable learning from subordinates, peers, and superiors; willing to share <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">information with others<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Ability to plan, track, and technically document work<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Ability to work effectively under occasional pressure<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Excellent writing and communication skills<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Ability to independently evaluate and address language department needs<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Having<\/span> <em><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">one<\/span> <\/em><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">or<\/span> <em><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">more<\/span> <\/em><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of the following additional skills is also required:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Skills<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Website design, administration, programming<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Digitization of analog audio and video<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Audio and video recording<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Computer-Aided Language Learning<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">(CALL) development, especially web-based<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Programming \/ Scripting<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Database design and management<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Desktop publishing, graphics creation<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Grant writing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Example technologies\/tools\/sub-methods<br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">HTML, PHP, JS, CSS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Audacity\/Audition, Premiere<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Video production or audio engineering<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Moodle, Canvas<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">PHP, Java, JS<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">FileMaker Pro, Access, MySQL<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Photoshop, InDesign<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Student Tech Fee (STF)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Staff Associates will have the following responsibilities:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Actively and effectively facilitate communication between multiple language departments <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and the LLC<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Develop one or more technical specializations, and share these skills with other LLC <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">staff and with language departments to maximize the LLC&#8217;s technical proficiency<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Understand and discuss with language departments the role that technology can play in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">effective language instruction<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Work with language departments and LLC core staff to coordinate the availability of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">language learning audio, video, and courseware \/ learning management software (LMS)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Document technical processes and knowledge in a clear and timely fashion, both for <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">historical reference and for excellent \u2018how to\u2019 procedures for others on the LLC wiki<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Independently research new language learning pedagogies and technologies<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Conduct seminars about LLC resources for language coordinators, instructors, and other <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">LLC staff<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Actively participate in ongoing strategic planning and achievement of strategic goals<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Assist LLC patrons in use of LLC resources; troubleshoot audio, video, and computing <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">problems<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Support LLC infrastructure at all levels<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Record live audio to computer, edit audio, output to multiple formats, convert analog <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">audio to digital, possibly use audio restorative tools<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Capture analog and digital video to computer, edit, output in multiple formats<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Prepare language learning audio and video for online streaming distribution<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Actively participate in a one-hour weekly seminar and read materials provided in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">advance when assigned<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Attend quarterly home department meetings and keep faculty and graduate students <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">apprised of LLC resources and activities<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Maintain an up-to-date and accurate calendar (Google Calendar), following documented <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">protocols<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Ensure that all files \/ folders \/ apps \/ physical items that are the responsibility of the ASE, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">are stored and documented as per the LLC wiki<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Assist LLC patrons in use of LLC resources;
