Twenty French educators from across the state enjoyed an all-day workshop on Qu\u00e9bec, in French, from l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval\u2019s director of language programs.<\/p>\n

The Canadian Studies Center, in partnership with UW\u2019s Department of French and Italian Studies, Language Learning Center, UW in the High School and the Government of Qu\u00e9bec, provided the all-day workshop \u201cLe Qu\u00e9bec, connais-tu?\u201d at the UW in late February. Twenty UW in the High School teachers and other faculty were introduced to Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s history and culture and provided the tools to integrate Qu\u00e9bec content into their curricula.<\/p>\n

The workshop was conducted entirely in French and hosted by Rachel Sauv\u00e9, director of l\u2019\u00c9cole de langues\u00a0at Universit\u00e9 Laval.\u00a0Workshop participants were extremely\u00a0pleased\u00a0with the workshop and Sauv\u00e9’s instruction\u00a0noting:<\/p>\n

“(j’ai aim\u00e9) les activit\u00e9s que je peux utiliser sans beaucoup d’adaptation dans mes cours au lyc\u00e9e.”<\/em><\/div>\n
“J’ai beaucoup appr\u00e9ci\u00e9 les activit\u00e9s. On a bien discut\u00e9 et je vais employer la vid\u00e9o et la musique en classe.”<\/em><\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Hedwige Meyer<\/a>, affiliated faculty of the Center and principal lecturer in the Department of French and Italian Studies, chaired the workshop. In summer 2019, Hedwige traveled to Qu\u00e9bec to set up the workshop with the Government of Qu\u00e9bec and l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval. She also developed an intensive French summer study abroad program with l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Laval language program is tailored to the skills of each student, and allows them to undertake immersive French study while also engaging in cultural activities to expose them to the unique culture and setting of Qu\u00e9bec City.
