We are pleased to welcome Dr. Kathy Snow as the 2019-2020 UW Fulbright Canada Visiting Chair in Arctic Studies<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dr. Snow joins us from the University of Prince Edward Island, where she is an associate professor in the Faculty of Education. She is also the academic lead for the University\u2019s certificate in Educational Leadership Nunavut, a partnership between the University of Prince Edward Island and the Government of Nunavut to support professional development of teachers. As a qallunaat<\/em> (non-Inuit person) who grew up in Nunavut, Dr. Snow has experienced the education system of the territory from multiple perspectives which has led her to research in service of her first home. She researches in the areas of Inuit student success, persistence and wellness as well as Inuit teacher education and resilience.<\/p>\n

While at the University of Washington, Dr. Snow will be continuing her research while also teaching ARCTIC 401: \u201cInuit Education: Past, Present and Future<\/a>\u201d. The course will focus on the history of Inuit education, the relationship of education to land claims, Inuit models of education, and current issues in Inuit education reform in Canada.<\/p>\n

Dr. Snow will also present the UW Fulbright Canada Visiting Chair in Arctic Studies annual lecture this spring via streaming video as a public, online event. Details for the event will be posted to the Canadian Studies Center website soon!<\/p>\n

The Fulbright Canada Visiting Chair in Arctic Studies<\/a>\u00a0is supported by the UW Office of Global Affairs, the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, Social Sciences Division, College of Arts and Sciences, College of the Environment, and the Foundation for Educational Exchange Between Canada and the United States of America, Ottawa.
