As a result of site visits made to l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval by Rich Watts, faculty director, Canadian Studies Center, and Hedwige Meyer, affiliated faculty of the Center, UW students can now participate in a direct exchange to Laval for French study.<\/p>\n

One of Rich Watts\u2019 first initiatives as director of Canadian Studies was to visit l\u2019Universit\u00e9 Laval to begin discussions about an agreement between UW and Laval to enable our UW students to take intensive French courses at Laval via direct exchange. This past summer, Hedwige Meyer, senior lecturer in the Department of French and Italian Studies, followed up with a visit to Laval to finalize the agreement with the director of l\u2019\u00c9cole de langues in the Facult\u00e9 des lettres et des sciences humaines, Rachel Sauv\u00e9. Early this fall, the chair of French and Italian Studies, Geoffrey Turnovsky, Rich Watts, and Mike Renes, manager of Partner and Exchange Programs, UW Study Abroad, finalized the program.<\/p>\n

L’\u00c9cole de langues at Laval allows UW students to register for four to five courses per 15-week semester. Fall semester runs from early September to mid-December and winter semester runs from mid-January to late April. Courses are separated into five levels that allow\u00a0students to progress from beginner to a B2 level.<\/p>\n

L\u2019\u00c9cole de langues de l’Universit\u00e9 Laval offers a team of experienced teachers and enthusiastic monitors who are ready to give solid training in French. Alternating between in-class study and socio-cultural activities allows students\u00a0to learn and practice French in a motivating setting. L’Universit\u00e9 Laval ensures that\u00a0students are living in\u00a0full immersion in a cozy, dynamic and secure environment.<\/p>\n
