In mid-November, University of the Arctic (UArctic) president, Lars Kullerud, and vice president, Outi Snellman, visited UW in an effort to strength collaborations between the UW and UArctic.<\/p>\n
The day began with a meeting with UW faculty and students where Kullerud and Snellman provided a history and background of UArctic and pointed out the many ways that students and faculty could benefit from online courses, North2North program, and the dozens of Thematic Networks. The meeting was followed by a planning session with representatives from UW Study Abroad to begin plans for a UW-UArctic study abroad agreement. The meeting was attended by Donna Anger, director of University of Alaska Fairbanks Programs and Initiatives, who also serves in an advisory role on U.S. mobility in UArctic.<\/p>\n
The visit included a luncheon with vice provost for global affairs, Jeff Riedinger; director of the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies, Re\u015fat Kasaba; representative from the Consulate General of Canada in Seattle, Jennifer Audet; and the heads of Scandinavian Studies, the Applied Physics Laboratory, and Program on Climate Change.<\/p>\n
Lars Kullerud is president of University of the Arctic and senior advisor to GRID-Arendal managing director; Outi Snellman is vice-president organization for University of the Arctic and director of International Relations, University of Lapland, Rovaniemi, Finland. UW Council representatives include Nadine Fabbi, managing director of the Canadian Studies Center, and Elena Campbell, associate professor, Department of History. In September 2019, Campbell represented the UW at the UArctic meetings in Stockholm, Sweden.<\/p>\n
