The Pacific Northwest National Resource Center on Canada teamed up with the Northeast National Resource Center to participate in the annual meetings of the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS) held in Chicago in November 2018.<\/p>\n
Kyla Sweet, the Pacific Northwest NRC K-12 education and curriculum specialist, worked with Betsy Arntzen, University of Maine, and Amy Sotherden, State University of New York at Plattsburgh, to bring Canada to the NCSS. They presented a power session titled \u201cThe Stories We Tell: Indigenous History, Literacy and Cultural Sensitivity\u201d to a full room.<\/p>\n
In International Alley at the Canada exhibit booth, they talked with hundreds of educators from across the United States about Canadian history, literature, and politics, and shared educational resources and pedagogical ideas.<\/p>\n
The team also hosted Dr. Jos\u00e9 Brand\u00e3o, who gave a presentation called \u201cPathways of Change: Natives and French in the Great Lakes.\u201d An Area Studies Outreach pre-conference at the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana offered opportunities to connect with other national resource centers to share best practices and ideas for the next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
