Reading the New Political Party Machines in Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Phil Howard, Communication<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday April 27th, Dr. Greg Elmer gave a lecture on the role of streaming media in contemporary Canadian politics. He is the is Bell Globemedia Research Chair and Director of the Infoscape Centre for the Study of Social Media, Ryerson University, Toronto. The lecture he gave features material he preparing with co-author with F. McKelvey and G. Langlois for a forthcoming book, &#8220;The Permanent Campaign: New Media, New Politics&#8221; with Peter lang. Elmer is an internationally renowned scholar with expertise in political communication and digital media. In the last few Canadian elections, Dr. Elmer has also built \u201creal-time\u201d social science projects that analyze the flow of content out of campaign organizations of Canadian political parties, delivering the analysis to journalists and the broader public. His lecture, \u201cLive Research?
