{"id":12353,"date":"2023-10-06T23:48:35","date_gmt":"2023-10-06T23:48:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/canada\/?p=12353"},"modified":"2023-10-06T23:48:35","modified_gmt":"2023-10-06T23:48:35","slug":"center-awarded-grant-from-the-government-of-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/canada\/news\/center-awarded-grant-from-the-government-of-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Center awarded grant from the Government of Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Government of Canada is supporting the <a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/canada\/programs\/arctic-studies-minor\/arctic-task-force\/2024-arctic-task-force\/\">winter quarter 2024 Task Force on the Arctic<\/a> with a $25,000 grant from the Global Arctic Leadership Initiative.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Task Force is a unique undergraduate capstone that offers Jackson School students practical experience making policy recommendations. Each Task Force report is produced by teams of student researchers and evaluated by real-world experts in the field.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Arctic Task Force is unique in that it includes a one-week trip to Ottawa where students visit with Arctic nation-state embassies, federal departments, Inuit organizations, and other scholars. This year\u2019s Arctic Task Force will address ways that policies may impact China\u2019s role in the region and what impact, if any, China\u2019s role in Arctic policy might have on Arctic Indigenous Peoples, Canada, the United States and beyond.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The 2024 Task Force will be taught by Michelle Koutnik, Earth and Space Sciences with assistance from Nadine Fabbi and Paul Carrington, East Asia Center.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The funds will be used to support student travel and Issue #9 of the Jackson School\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/research\/ipi\/ipi-arctic\/arctic-and-international-relations-series\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Arctic and International Relations Series <\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">that will feature student policy papers from the course.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">For more about the Arctic Task Force program, click <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jsis.washington.edu\/canada\/programs\/arctic-studies-minor\/arctic-task-force\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Government of Canada is supporting the winter quarter 2024 Task Force on the Arctic with a $25,000 grant from the Global Arctic Leadership Initiative.\u00a0 Task Force is a unique undergraduate capstone that offers Jackson School students practical experience making policy recommendations.
