The\u00a0Western Washington University Children\u2019s Literature Conference<\/a>\u00a0is back in person after a two year pandemic hiatus, and with a new addition: the Inaugural Canadian Children\u2019s Literature honoree,\u00a0Sydney Smith<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Thanks to a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the conference will bring a notable Canadian Children\u2019s author or illustrator as one of four presenters each year, showcasing their talent for American educators. Sydney Smith will join the conference from Halifax, Nova Scotia, to share the stage with other notable authors such as Renee Watson<\/a>,\u00a0Michaela Goade<\/a>\u00a0and Newbery Award winning\u00a0Donna Barba Higuera<\/a>. Smith has won the highest honor in Canadian Literature, the Governor General\u2019s Award (2015), as well as a Kate Greenway Award (2021), an Ezra Jack Keats Award (2020) and many others for his titles like \u201cSidewalk Flowers\u201d<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cTown is by the Sea\u201d<\/a>,\u00a0\u201cI Talk Like a River\u201d<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0\u201cSmall in the City\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n
