H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Vilavella-Collins<\/a>, Senior Lecturer, French and Italian Studies, was awarded a Business Language Grant to great a new course featuring Qu\u00e9bec businesses.<\/p>\n

This summer quarter H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Vilavella-Collins a Senior Lecturer in the Department of French and Italian Studies revised her course FRENCH 313 to focus on business in France and Qu\u00e9bec. French 313: French for Professional and Business Communication\u00a0is a 5-credit course that fulfills the language course requirements for the Certificate of International Studies in Business in the School of Business.<\/p>\n

The first part of the course is dedicated to the study of professional and business culture in France and Qu\u00e9bec, as well as of its vocabulary, via the exploration of the themes of work, social protection, social classes, general economy, and the typology of businesses. Students will gain the concepts and vocabulary necessary to allow them to do case studies of existing French and Qu\u00e9becois businesses and to present these to their classmates.<\/p>\n

The case studies involve research and contact with the chosen individual businesses in both France and Qu\u00e9bec including Air Inuit and other minority-owned businesses.<\/p>\n

H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Vilavella-Collins is the director of the French and Italian Studies study abroad Nantes and Paris programs. She is also the coordinator of Comparative Literature France: Autumn Quarter in Paris program for the Comparative History of Ideas Department. She is certified by the French Ministry of Education as an examiner for the DELF-DALF exams (Levels A1 to C2.) In 2015, she was awarded the title of “Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Acad\u00e9miques” by the French minister of Education.<\/p>\n

Vilavella-Collins was awarded a Business Language Grant from Global Business Center in the School of Business, and course revisions funds from the Canadian Studies Center, to revise FRENCH 313. The course will be offered for the first time in Fall Quarter 2021.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
