The Center, in collaboration with the Department of French and Italian Studies and Study Abroad, offers a direct exchange program for UW students to conduct summer study at l’Universit\u00e9 Laval in Qu\u00e9bec City.\u00a0<\/span>This program is specifically geared to students who would like to focus on French language acquisition. It is tailored to each student’s language level, and allows students to take content courses designed for speakers of French as a foreign language. Courses will be taken on the Universit\u00e9 Laval campus. If travel is not permitted, students may elect to study at Laval virtually. The\u00a0priority application deadline is April 1st.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The \u00c9cole de langues de l’Universit\u00e9 Laval offers a team of experienced teachers and enthusiastic monitors ready to give\u00a0solid training in French. Alternating between\u00a0courses in class and socio-cultural activities allows students\u00a0to exchange in French in a motivating setting. L’Universit\u00e9 Lavall ensures that\u00a0students are living in\u00a0full immersion in a cozy, dynamic, and secure environment. Students can apply to live in one of the university residence halls or arrange\u00a0housing on their own. More information can be found\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Prerequisites and Language Requirements\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
Students participating in this program must be of Sophomore standing or above and must have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.<\/span><\/div>\n

Credits and Conversion Scale<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
You will approx. receive 12 – 15\u00a0UW credits per quarter. How our office will determine the amount is through our\u00a0Credit Conversion Scale<\/a>\u00a0for the program.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

Courses<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n
\n

L’\u00c9cole de langues (ELUL)\u00a0will give access to a free online placement test to all prospective students applying for FLE courses. L’\u00c9cole also recognizes the score obtained on these tests: TFI, DELF, TCF and TEF.<\/span>L’\u00c9cole de langues allows you to register for\u00a04-5 courses per 15-week semester. Fall semester runs from early September to mid-December and Winter semester runs from mid-January to late April. Courses are separated into 5 levels that allow\u00a0you to progress from beginner to a B2 level.<\/p>\n

In order to maintain full time status, you’ll need to complete at least 120 hours of study. Students who have applied through UW Study Abroad, in addition to Laval, for 3-4 courses will earn 18-24\u00a0UW credits, most likely of French 199, 299 or 308\/390\/337. Other UW credits may be awarded. The actual UW credits you will earn will be determined after you return to the UW and will depend on the French you have completed prior to the program and the level(s) you will complete in Laval.<\/p>\n
