The University of Washington (UW) is one of the world\u2019s premier institutions for research and study of the Arctic region–the environment and its people. This includes <\/span>basic and applied research of the ice-covered regions on Earth conducted by the <\/span>Polar Science Center<\/span><\/a>; the <\/span>Polar Initiative<\/span><\/a> in the College of the Environment; research and teaching in the social sciences and humanities including courses in the Inuit language hosted by the College of Arts and Science; as well research in other campus units including the Information School.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jackson School Arctic Initiative<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies (Jackson School), College of the Environment, and the Office of Global Affairs host <\/span>UW\u2019s<\/span> Fulbright Canada Chair in Arctic Studies<\/span><\/a>. The Jackson School also offers a <\/span>minor in Arctic Studies<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

The UW is a proud member of the <\/span>University of the Arctic<\/span><\/a> – a network of universities, colleges, research institutes, and other organizations concerned with education and research about the North. Membership with UArctic enables the UW to provide our students with opportunities to study at another UArctic institution globally via the <\/span>north2north<\/span><\/i><\/a> program.<\/span>The Canadian Studies Center\/Arctic and International Relations in the Jackson School coordinates UW\u2019s Arctic Initiative in an effort to bring research scientists, faculty members, students, and staff together to build cooperation and collaboration in research, study, and outreach. <\/span><\/p>\n
