In September 2022 the Center was one of 44 institutions to receive funding through the U.S. Department of State’s Increase and Diversity Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) Program to create, expand, and diversify student mobility in support of U.S. foreign policy goals.<\/p>\n

The $35,000 grant, developed in partnership with the UW Center for American Indian & Indigenous Studies<\/a> and titled \u201cInternational Indigenous Paths: Building Community Across the Canada-U.S. Border<\/strong>,\u201d<\/strong> will develop pathways and programming that allows student advisers and host schools to create an encouraging, conducive environment for Indigenous students.<\/p>\n

Working with the 2022-23 Native UW (NUW) Scholars, the International Indigenous Paths program will equip a cohort of Indigenous undergraduates with the tools to successfully navigate the study abroad experience and pave the way for future students to do the same. NUW Scholars will be guided through the passport process, border crossings, and study abroad application process. Through visits to the University of British Columbia, NUW Scholars will be able to build comfort and familiarity with that campus and its community before they decide to embark on a formal study abroad experience.<\/p>\n
