Conflict erupted between Gbagbo\u2019s government southern forces and Ouattara\u2019s northern forces, which eventually led to the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20110720223637\/http:\/\/topics.nytimes.com\/top\/news\/international\/countriesandterritories\/ivorycoast\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Second Ivorian Civil War<\/a> in 2011.
