Special Supplemental Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Award
for South Asia for AY 2009-2010.
The South Asia Center (FLAS) has been awarded an additional academic year FLAS for 2009-2010. We are announcing a new competition for this one award only. Applications must be submitted using the linked forms.
The application deadline is May 6, 2009.
Academic-year FLAS fellowships are awarded for language and area studies relating to South Asia. This award pay up to $12,000 for tuition and most fees, including graduate appointee health insurance, plus a stipend of $15,000.
This fellowship is open to graduate and professional students who are US citizens or permanent residents and who meet designated requirements for language and area studies. Applicants to graduate programs compete with current UW students for available awards. Preference is given to students who will begin language study at all levels for Hindi, Urdu and Bengali. Students who already possess language fluency equivalent to educated native speakers in the language for which the award is sought, and students who have finished their coursework and are doing dissertation research in the United States or abroad, receive lowest priority in the selection process.
Students who applied for the earlier round of FLAS for AY 09-10 and have not yet been notified will automatically be considered for this award.
