Advanced Study of Thai

Applications Due: February 01, 2010

IN-COUNTRY ACTIVITIES

Upon arrival in Thailand, AST students receive orientation to the program, the University, and the community. They also take a pre-program proficiency test and obtain housing. Orientation is in Thailand on June 20-21, 2009. Classes begin on Monday, June 22, 2009. In addition to language classes and related experiential activities, students are encouraged to sit in on CMU courses related to their field of study. Opportunities are also provided for students to network with other students and scholars while gaining confidence in discipline-specific vocabulary. Other program activities include a half-day field trip in Chiang Mai and an extended mid-program trip to nearby areas in northern Thailand. The culminating activity of the program is the oral presentation by each student of a research project conducted in Chiang Mai.
