IN-COUNTRY ACTIVITIES (N.B. Details will vary for 2013)
Upon arrival in Thailand, AST students receive orientation to the program, to Chiang Mai University, and to the community. They also take a pre-program proficiency test and obtain housing. Classes begin on: June 24, 2013. In addition to language classes and related experiential activities, students are encouraged to sit in on CMU courses related to their field of study. Opportunities are also provided for students to network with CMU students and scholars while gaining confidence in discipline-specific vocabulary. Other program activities include a half-day field trip in Chiang Mai and an extended mid-program trip to nearby areas in northern Thailand. The culminating activity of the program is the oral presentation by each student of the results of an interviewing project conducted in Chiang Mai.
