ASYA VAISMAN - HAZEL D. COLE FELLOW for 2009-2010
The JSP is pleased to introduce the 2009-2010 Hazel D. Cole Fellow:
Ms. Asya Vaisman who is completing her PhD in the Yiddish program of the Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations department at Harvard University. Her dissertation topic is "Being Heard: The Yiddish Songs and Singing Practices of Contemporary Hasidic Women." Asya conducted original fieldwork for her dissertation in the Hasidic communities in New York, Jerusalem, London, and Antwerp. She has published articles in the periodicals Yiddish, Tsukunft, Sh’ma, and Forverts, and in the annual Russian-language anthology “Music of Yiddishkayt.” She will join the JSP faculty in fall 2009.
THE HAZEL D. COLE FELLOWSHIP IN JEWISH STUDIES for 2010-2011
The Jewish Studies Program at the University of Washington welcomes applications for the Hazel D. Cole Fellowship in Jewish Studies for 2010-2011. The Fellowship may be used for doctoral or post-doctoral (PhD received within last three years) research in any field of Jewish Studies. Candidates must agree to be in residence at the University of Washington for the tenure of the fellowship. The Cole Fellow receives a stipend of approximately $30,000 plus benefits pending funding for the academic year and is expected to offer one public lecture and one undergraduate course during the 2010-11 academic year.

December 20-22, 2009 in Los Angeles, CA at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. For conference information please see: http://www.ajsnet.org/conf_2009.html Phone interviews may be conducted for finalists who are not able to attend tAJS conference.
The successful candidate for the Cole Fellowship will be notified in early 2010.
