UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON: JAPANESE POLITICS INTERNSHIP 2009 SUMMER

Open to all UW undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students.

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
Participate in a rare opportunity to volunteer with a Japanese government representative’s election campaign. Takashi Shinohara (UW JD ’78) is a Democratic Party of Japan Representative from Nagano Prefecture. A general election is expected sometime during Autumn 2009, and Rep. Shinohara will spend the summer campaigning in his prefecture. Work at the campaign headquarters, meet other campaign volunteers, see how a campaign operates, and be part of the process.

DURATION: Minimum two-week full-time internship almost any time during summer quarter.

REQUIREMENTS:
• Completed Application Packet received by or on April 15, 2009
• Fluency or very high level of proficiency in Japanese language required (spoken and written)
• Must have demonstrated interest in Japanese politics
• Must be able to secure own accommodations/housing
• Must have valid passport/travel documents

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE: Some financial assistance is available, but may not be available for all Shinohara Interns, should multiple awards be made.
