The Institute of Transnational Studies (formerly the Taylor Institute of Transnational Studies),
is an organization whose mission is to facilitate research exchange and collaboration across and
beyond the social sciences and area studies programs at the University of Washington. Our goal is
to enable conversations among researchers about methodological and thematic concerns that cross the
boundaries of disciplines and regions of the world. Our grant programs foster research that grows
out of these conversations. We provide seed grants and assistance for research clusters, conferences
and related speaker series.
Previous programs include: The Modern Girl Around the World; Nature and Its Public Spheres in the
Tropical World; Public Spaces and the Public Sphere: Multidisciplinary Inquiries into Urban Change
in the Asia Pacific; Recasting Asia America; Feminism and Fundamentalism; and Law, Governmentality,
and Globalization.
The Institute is open to all faculty and staff of the University of Washington campuses and welcomes
projects that include graduate or undergraduate student researchers.
Announcement:
Call for proposals for research collaboration and small grants awarded to transnational speakers. Deadline: April 9, 2007
