2007 West Coast Model EU
The European Union Center of Excellence, along with our partners the Center for the Study of Europe at Brigham Young University and The European Union Center of California at The Claremont Colleges, held the 2007 West Coast Model EU on February 23-24, 2007, in Seattle. For information about the 2008 West Coast Model EU, please contact the EU Center of Excellence.
The Model EU is a simulation of a European Council summit. Teams made up of three undergraduate students play the roles of representatives of EU member state delegations. This year, the students negotiated issues discussed during the United Kingdom Presidency of 2005. The 2007 Model EU featured three concurrent summit negotiation sessions focusing on the following issues: EU enlargement (including accession of Turkey and Croatia, and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia's candidate status), the future direction of Europe in the wake of the failed Constitutional Treaty, and the 2007-2013 budget, which raises issues related to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
The 2007 West Coast Model EU was sponsored by the European Union Center of Excellence, the Center for West European Studies, and the Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies at the Jackson School of International Studies, University of Washington.
