2006 West Coast Model EU
The European Union Center of Excellence of Seattle, along with our partner programs at Brigham Young University and The Claremont Colleges, invited West Coast colleges and universities to send a team of undergraduates to participate in the 2006 Model EU. Thanks to a European Commission grant, the Center was able to offer financial support to undergraduate students to participate.
The Model EU is a simulation of a European Council summit. Teams of three undergraduate students play the roles of representatives of EU member state delegations. In 2006, the students negotiated issues discussed at the two EU Council summits that took place during the recent Luxembourg Presidency of the EU (January to June 2005). The 2006 Model EU featured three concurrent summit negotiation sessions focusing on the following issues: future rounds of EU enlargement (with an emphasis on the Balkans); the Growth and Stability Pact; and the 2007-2013 budget, which raised issues related to the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and the British rebate.
