European Union Center of Excellence

Located on the beautiful University of Washington campus in one of the country's most dynamic cities, the European Union Center of Excellence of Seattle benefits from and contributes to a rich environment of learning and public discourse. To meet the needs of our diverse audiences, the center maintains a multifaceted student and outreach-oriented program focused on several key themes of European integration and EU-US relations. This program is comprised of five major components: an annual academic conference focusing on a major issue that affects the EU or EU-US relations and featuring related outreach programs, a yearly EU simulation course and a complementary West Coast model EU, extensive EU study opportunities for students including an EU studies program in Brussels, a schools outreach program featuring Team EU-27 classroom visits and annual EU training workshops for educators, and a broad public outreach program emphasizing the importance of EU-US ties to government, media, business, and the community.

The EU Center of Excellence carries out its activities in concert with the Center for West European Studies and the program host, the Henry M. Jackson School of International Studies. The University of Washington is one of only two universities west of the Rockies to host both an EU Center of Excellence and US Department of Education National Resource Center for West European Studies.
