Treadgold Studies
The Ellison Center for Russian, East European and Central Asian Studies of the University of Washington's Jackson School of International Studies publishes this series of peer-reviewed occasional papers in the memory of Professor Donald W. Treadgold and as a tribute to his contribution in the field. The Treadgold Studies serve as a forum for the dissemination of current research of interdisciplinary relevance on Russian, East Europe and Central Asia. Publications include papers from symposia and monographs that are ideally suited for a short book form, appropriate for university classroom use.
At this time we are only publishing solicited manuscripts.
A History of the Series
The first issue of the series, “Law in Russia,” was published in 1994, under the direction of Dan Waugh. Two years later, with the publication of the fourth issue, Sabrina P. Ramet took over as editor. During her tenure as editor, the Treadgold Papers (the original title of the series) covered a number of controversies associated with the ethnic conflict in the former Yugoslavia, topics related to the post-communist transition in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and a diverse range of issues on both contemporary and historical Russia. In 2001, Glennys Young became the third Editor of the Treadgold series, continuing many of the earlier traditions as well as overseeing some major changes. With an issue dedicated to renowned Russian scholar Reginald Zelnik, in 2005 the Treadgold Studies upgraded its production quality through a partnership with the University of Washington Press. Since 2009, Laada Bilaniuk is serving as the fourth editor of the series.
