Comparative Federalism Studies Program (COMFED)
The COMFED program promotes the comparative study of federal systems in the United States and the European Union. COMFED allows UW graduate students the opportunity to study issues related to comparative federalism at partner universities in Europe.
COMFED is a partnership of the Center for West European Studies, the European Union Center of Excellence of Seattle and five other institutional partners. This consortium has received a grant from the US Department of Education's Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education (FIPSE) and the European Commission to establish a trans-Atlantic consortium promoting the comparative study of the American federal system and the developing quasi-federal institutions of the European Union. UW graduate students can received grants through the program to pursue the COMFED curriculum at our partner universities in Britain (Birmingham), Belgium (Universite Libre de Bruxelles) and Paris (Sciences Po).
