Collections and Resources

The Canadian Studies collection held by the University of Washington Libraries is one of the premier collections in the nation comprising over 155,000 cataloged volumes, including government publications, an estimated 39,000 map sheets, and the second largest video collection in the country. Specialized databases for Canadian Studies provided by the Libraries include CBCA Reference, a full-text database of hundreds of Canadian academic journals and general interest magazines, and Canadian Research Index, an online index to Canadian government publications. Many other databases to which the Libraries subscribes also provide access to online resources of interest to researchers and scholars of Canada

An outstanding resource for Canadian Studies is the Pacific Northwest Collection of the Libraries' Special Collections Division. It comprises some 60,000 volumes focused on western Canada and is especially strong in ethnic and native studies. The Libraries also house an exceptional collection of photographs relating to First Nations and to the Klondike gold rush. The Libraries Digital Collections portal provides online access over 2500 digitized photos and documents on British Columbia and the Yukon.

In addition, the Summit union catalog provides access - within 2-3 business days - to thousands of volumes on Canadian Studies held by 34 other academic libraries in Washington and Oregon.
